Asa at the Helm

Some photos from our 3-day canoe trip in the Adirondacks. We paddled from Long Lake to Tupper Lake along the lazy, meandering Raquette River.

Beautiful!! Blanca and I have done a lot of that, but when I look at Asa in the second picture, I think, "Black flies ! Mosquitoes !"
I know you wouldn't tolerate them, but how did you handle that?

Can't get over that second photo. Looks like a little man.

The only real insect issues we had were with the mosquitos. And that was restricted to evenings, at which time we all donned long pants, jackets, and socks, and stayed close the campfire. I tried to get Asa into the tent as soon as he fell asleep.

Remarkably, I don't think he had any real bug bites, although he certainly responded to the whine of mosquitos around his head. I, on the other hand, had bites from those little buggers all over my ankles and feet-- right through my socks.

My caption for the 3rd photo:
"Now son, you're getting big enough now to understand some of these things..........."
