Bad science. I left to get binoculars for about 20 seconds, and it was gone when I came back. I ASSUMED it took off with the carcass, but I did not observe this. Entirely possible something else stole the carcass from the hawk.
Also, might be a Cooper's hawk.

Sharp-shinned hawk (I think) eating a dove on our deck, outside the kitchen window. It eventually took off with the carcass.
